The United States installed more solar in 2023 than ever before — 32.4 GW total and 51% more than the previous year. That significant expansion of the installation market is acknowledged this year in the 2024 Top Solar Contractors List released today by Solar Power World. The Top 5 solar contractors each installed more than 2 GW in 2023, while some exceeded 3 GW.
“Solar projects in every market — residential to utility-scale — are getting bigger and oftentimes more complicated in scope, financing and permitting. That’s why it’s all the more impressive when so many top installation companies have banner years,” said Kelly Pickerel, editor in chief of Solar Power World. “The Top Solar Contractors List is a great gauge for how strong individual companies are in their local markets.”
Many of the companies on the 2024 Top Solar Contractors List overcame major hurdles last year — big net-metering changes in California, high interest rates nationwide, opposition to large-scale solar sites and much more. Due to this unfortunate turbulence, some companies exited the industry, which allowed new names to take top spots on the Top Solar Contractors List.
The main list has a new No. 1, with Florida-headquartered contractor Moss taking the top spot for the first time. The EPC completed 3.5 GW in 2023 and installed 1.5 GW in its home state.
“Moss’ solar business experienced exponential growth within the last six years — not only did this translate into an increase in energizations, but our workforce grew significantly too. Our ability to scale rapidly while maintaining high-quality standards and innovative practices has uniquely positioned us as leaders in the industry,” said Edwin Perkins, president of the solar division at Moss. “Reaching No. 1 on the Top Solar Contractors List reflects the hard work and dedication of every member of the Moss team and is a testament to our core values in action.”
