Cheers to a decade of Top Solar Contractors

Since starting the magazine in late 2011, Solar Power World has published an annual list of the best solar contractors across the United States. The original list of 100 contractors multiplied, with this year showcasing 426 companies. That’s not all that’s changed in a decade.

The companies on our list have hired more employees, entered new niches and expanded into other states. The solar industry employed around 100,000 workers in 2011, but now over 230,000 people receive a paycheck because of solar power.

It’s our distinct pleasure to recognize solar contracting companies both large and small every year. For this momentous 10th anniversary issue, we wanted to emphasize the people who make the industry run every day. We’re featuring Q&As with seasoned solar leaders who inspire those who work for them, as well as new installers on rooftops transforming companies with their passion. We’ve also launched our first-ever Solar Champion awards to honor individuals who excel in their jobs and solar advocacy efforts.

Once again, we found ourselves impressed and inspired by the stories from some standout companies. In our Across America section, we feature some of these profiles, like IPS Solar helping the Red Lake Nation achieve their solar dreams, and Solar Source persevering through a destructive tornado that ripped the roof off its headquarters.

Despite the adversity the industry and the world has experienced recently, we’re feeling so hopeful about the future of solar power. Here’s to the next 10 years!
