By Roof Tech Inc.
Roof Tech has been a leading innovator in roofing technologies for more than five decades and was the first company in the world to utilize butyl tape in its PV mounting systems. Since 1994, Roof Tech’s AlphaSeal® System has been recognized throughout the solar industry as the gold standard in waterproof flexible flashing.
Roof Tech’s Waterproof AlphaSeal® System.
Roof Tech’s self-flashing AlphaSeal System is far more than simple butyl tape. It combines Roof Tech’s proprietary RT-Butyl with proprietary stainless-steel wood screws to provide unmatched versatility for PV mounting on any type of roof or pitch. The result is an impenetrable sealant that delivers superior flexibility and retains its waterproofing protection for decades.
The original and still the best: proven in practice since 1994.
Other mounting products make claims, but their sealants can’t compete with AlphaSeal. Roof Tech has proven AlphaSeal’s quality in practice for 30 years, while others are still testing their flexible flashing products. Only AlphaSeal achieved International Code Council (ICC) certification as flexible flashing (ICC ESR-3575) in 2013, and in 2023 was updated to comply with the 2021 International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC). Competing products use sealants that can dry up and crack over time, most with a maximum service temperature between 160°F and 200°F. AlphaSeal has been tested and proven to retain its resilience in extreme temperatures from -40°F to 248°F.
The time-tested mounting solution that’s 100% caulk-free.
When Roof Tech decided to put caulk-free mounting to the test, it conducted rigorous tests using static water pressure and accelerated aging. The results were successful, and Roof Tech pronounced AlphaSeal as the first-ever integrated mounting system that delivers superior performance without the use of caulk. That means less time on the roof for installers and years of leak-free reliability for homeowners.
Backed by a 25-year warranty for total consumer confidence.
Roof Tech’s 25-year warranty not only covers all Roof Tech mounting products, it also covers the entire AlphaSeal System. Only AlphaSeal provides unmatched quality and endurance that stands the test of time. Installers of Roof Tech mounting systems trust Roof Tech’s proven reliability and consumers count on decades of leak-free performance from the AlphaSeal System. Roof Tech was the first company to offer a proven and certified mounting system for installation of leakproof PV systems on steep slope and low-slope roofs.
A historic hurricane was no match for AlphaSeal endurance.
In 2022, Hurricane Ian slammed into southwestern Florida with wind speeds of 120 mph and gusts up to 160 mph, making it the most destructive hurricane to strike Florida since 1935. Dozens of solar panels were blown off roofs into nearby canals. But when William May, founder of May Electric, inspected the damage on his customers’ homes, he was pleasantly surprised. “The roof portions where we installed panels using RT-MINI II with AlphaSeal were completely free of leaks. The mounting bases were intact and all the panels were exactly where we originally placed them.” Widespread flooding impacted the first and second floors of homes, but the top floors were completely leak-free because AlphaSeal kept all PV panels and shingles in place.
A legacy of excellence in roofing technologies.
In 2012, Roof Tech was established as the first U.S. subsidiary of Yanegiken, Japan’s leading manufacturer of PV mounting systems. Yanegiken had already pioneered its flexible flashing system in 1994 and Roof Tech introduced its own flexible flashing system with RT-Butyl in 2013. More than one million PV systems have been installed in Japan and the U.S. using PV mounting systems developed by Yanegiken. Today Roof Tech has stamped PE letters for rafter and decking (plywood and OSB) in 46 U.S. states and six provinces in Canada. Roof Tech continues to forge its path toward new breakthroughs with innovative products destined to revolutionize the solar industry.
